Junior School Teachers to Begin Online CEMASTEA Training on Monday – Full Details Here, Newly recruited Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers are set to undergo an important online training session on Monday, June 16, 2025, organized by the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA).

The virtual training will take place from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, and is aimed at enhancing teachers’ skills in ICT integration in teaching and learning.

Who Should Attend the Training?

The training targets:

  • 20,000 newly recruited JSS teachers, including those on the current 1-year internship programme.
  • P1 teachers deployed to junior secondary schools who have not yet undergone CEMASTEA training.
  • Teachers in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) at junior school level.
  • Those recently redeployed from primary schools and yet to attend any previous CEMASTEA sessions.

Training Format and Platform

  • The training will be conducted online via the CEMASTEA portal and other supported virtual platforms.
  • It will include both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (self-paced) sessions.
  • Teachers must use functional Gmail accounts to access the training materials and participate.

Official Circular Highlights

In a circular sent to all CTCDC Chairpersons and TSC County Directors, CEMASTEA emphasized:

  • Counties must submit participant data using the provided Excel template (Annex I and II).
  • The deadline for data submission was Friday, May 30, 2025.
  • All regional and county education officers were requested to coordinate the selection and participation of eligible teachers.

Why This Training Matters

This annual CEMASTEA initiative is part of a national effort to strengthen:

  • Digital literacy among educators
  • Competency-based curriculum (CBC) delivery
  • STEM education implementation at the junior school level

Teachers who successfully complete the training will be better equipped to integrate ICT tools into daily teaching and learning activities, aligning with Kenya’s educational reform goals.
