Apply Now: 2025 ClimateWorkx Youth Employment Program (Kazi Mtaani Relaunch),The Government of Kenya has officially launched the 2025 ClimateWorkx Program, a powerful expansion of the Kazi Mtaani initiative. This ambitious project aims to address youth unemployment while advancing climate resilience across the country.

ClimateWorkx is not just a job creation platform—it’s a movement empowering youth with practical skills, environmental consciousness, and long-term opportunities for economic independence.

What is the ClimateWorkx Program?

ClimateWorkx 2025 is a government-backed employment initiative targeting Kenyan youth aged 18–35 years. It blends green jobs, environmental conservation, and community development into one transformative national effort.

The program kicks off on 3rd June 2025 and will engage over 110,000 young people in meaningful work including:

  • Urban sanitation and clean-up
  • Tree planting and environmental restoration
  • Minor road construction and repair
  • Slum upgrading and drainage maintenance
  • Waste management and recycling initiatives

Key Objectives of ClimateWorkx 2025

  • Reduce Youth Unemployment through paid, community-based work
  • Promote Climate Action at the grassroots level
  • Build Life Skills & Civic Values among participants
  • Strengthen Local Economies via community improvements

“This is about giving young people the skills to start businesses, return to school, or find better jobs,” said government officials.

Focus Areas of Work

Participants will be assigned tasks within two major categories:

1. Environmental Conservation

  • Tree planting with Kenya Forest Service (KFS)
  • Setting up and maintaining nurseries
  • Restoring green spaces and public areas

2. Urban Infrastructure & Clean-Up

  • Cleaning markets, streets, and slums
  • Building footpaths, culverts, and feeder roads
  • Repairing public amenities (benches, signage, bins)

Additional roles include:

  • Public awareness campaigns on hygiene, climate, and values
  • Sorting and recycling waste

Employment Structure: Roles & Payments

👷‍♂️ Youth Workers

  • Perform manual labor tasks
  • Work in 10-day shifts (Mon–Fri), followed by training weeks
  • Paid KES 500/day via M-Pesa
  • Participate in personal development sessions

Supervisors

  • Lead work teams, manage logistics and records
  • Monitor compliance, safety, and task completion
  • Paid KES 580/day via M-Pesa
  • Must be local residents (ex-NYS youth prioritized)

To ensure equity and transparency, the following rules apply:

50:50 Gender Balance – Equal opportunities for men and women
30% Disability Inclusion – Reserved slots for youth with disabilities
One Applicant per Household – Maximizes community reach
Village-Based Recruitment – Work within your own neighborhood
Developmental Training – Learn entrepreneurship, leadership, civic responsibility
Tool Provision – All equipment supplied by government (handled responsibly)

Who Should Apply?

This program targets youth who are:

  • Kenyan citizens aged 18–35
  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • Residents of the targeted local area
  • Willing to work full-time for 10-day shifts
  • Ready to engage in physical and community-based tasks

Priority Groups:

  • Ex-NYS members
  • Youth with disabilities
  • Residents of informal settlements
  • Female-headed households
  • NEET youth (Not in Education, Employment, or Training)

Applications open from 3rd June 2025 via the official online government portal. The platform is mobile-friendly and accessible on smartphones or at cybercafés.

You’ll need:

  • Full name (as per ID)
  • National ID number
  • M-Pesa-registered phone number
  • County, sub-county, ward, and village details
  • Household status (confirm one applicant per household)
  • Disability or NYS status (if applicable)
  • Education and employment background
