Teachers to Attend Knec Briefings as New Exam Rules Take Effect

Primary and secondary school teachers will this week attend Knec briefings ahead of the 2025 national exams. The briefings are meant to sensitize contracted professionals on the new exam regulations and deployment guidelines.

Teachers are required to download their Knec deployment letters from the CP2 portal, which indicate their specific duties and responsibilities during the exams and assessments.

Knec Deployment Numbers

Knec CEO David Njengere revealed the staffing breakdown for this year’s exams:

KCSE 2025: 10,765 centre managers, 12,126 supervisors, 54,782 invigilators
KPSEA & KJSEA 2025: 24,213 centre managers, 26,479 supervisors, 125,492 invigilators

The exams, starting on 21st October 2025, will also involve 22,247 security officers and 2,692 drivers to ensure smooth delivery of exam materials.

At registration close, the following candidate numbers were confirmed:

996,078 candidates for KCSE
1,298,089 candidates for KPSEA
1,130,669 candidates for KJSEA

This brings the total to 3,424,836 learners sitting national exams this year.

Security Rules

Unlike KCSE, KPSEA and KJSEA will not have security officers inside exam centres. Instead, officers will only assist in transporting papers and scripts in areas facing security challenges.

For KCSE, however, every exam centre will have at least two police officers.

Teacher Deployment Rules

Knec has also introduced stricter deployment measures to fight exam malpractice:

Only secondary school teachers will serve as KCSE supervisors.
Supervisors will be rotated weekly to minimize cheating.
Junior school teachers will supervise KJSEA, assisted by primary teachers who will also act as invigilators.
Primary teachers will supervise KPSEA Grade 6.
Teachers must be registered and employed by TSC.
No teacher can be deployed to a school where they have worked in the past three years.
