How Parents Can Change Grade 10 School Choices Before Admission in Kenya – 2025 Guide
Parents and guardians of Grade 9 learners who are not satisfied with their child’s current Grade 10 placement now have a chance to request a school change. The Ministry of Education has officially opened a school selection revision window, allowing learners to adjust both their school and learning pathway before admission.
This process is important for families who feel the allocated senior school does not match the learner’s preferences, performance, or career goals.
When Does the Grade 10 School Change Window Open?
The Ministry of Education has announced that the revision period officially begins on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. During this time, eligible learners can apply to change their assigned Grade 10 school.
How to Change Grade 10 School Placement
Parents and learners can request a school change through two approved methods:
1. Online School Change
You can log into the Ministry of Education’s student placement portal from December 23, 2025 and submit a request to revise the selected senior school and pathway.
2. Through the Junior School Head
Alternatively, parents may visit their child’s current junior school and submit the change request through the school head. This must be done at least two weeks before the reporting date.
How the Replacement Process Works
School change approvals are not automatic. The Ministry will consider:
- The available space in the requested senior school
- Whether the learner selected that school during their original 12 choices
Students who had initially listed the requested school are given higher priority during replacements.
Once a new school is approved, the decision cannot be reversed. Each learner is allowed only one replacement request.
Important Notice About Admission Letters
If you intend to change your Grade 10 school, do not download the admission or calling letter for the currently assigned school. Downloading the letter may confirm your acceptance and lock you into that institution.
Grade 10 Reporting Date
All Grade 10 learners across Kenya are expected to report to their senior schools on January 12, 2026.
