3,000 Job Vacancies Announced at Kakamega County Government

The County Government of Kakamega has opened 3,000 vacancies under the County Youth Service and Women Empowerment Programme. The recruitment, anchored in the Constitution of Kenya 2010 (Article 55), the County Governments Act 2012, and the Kakamega County Youth and Women Service Act 2019, aims to provide jobs and skills for local residents.

About the Programme

This programme was established to empower youth and women by creating structured opportunities for work, training, and community service. It focuses on reducing unemployment, building discipline, and preparing participants for long-term employment or self-employment.

Successful recruits will take part in:

  • Road maintenance and repair
  • Bush clearing and sanitation
  • Cleaning public markets and drainage systems
  • Basic security duties and office cleaning

Beyond the work, participants will attend mandatory training sessions at county polytechnics. The training will cover paramilitary orientation, technical skills, and life skills such as teamwork, time management, and financial literacy.

Available Positions

  • Service Men and Women (3,000 positions)
    Recruits will join community-based teams tasked with improving public hygiene, security, and infrastructure across Kakamega County.

Key Responsibilities

Recruits will:

  • Maintain roads and improve community accessibility.
  • Clear bushes and reduce health risks.
  • Clean drainage systems to prevent flooding.
  • Sanitize and maintain public markets.
  • Provide light security and sentry duties.
  • Support county offices with cleaning and basic services.
  • Perform other community service tasks assigned by supervisors.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be Kenyan citizens with a valid National ID card or passport.
  • Be residents of Kakamega County.
  • Meet age limits:
    • Men: 18–35 years
    • Women: 35–55 years
  • Be physically fit and able to perform manual tasks.
  • Be of sound health and pass an aptitude test.
  • Present original documents for verification.
  • Commit to training twice a week at county polytechnics.

Shortlisted candidates will also undergo paramilitary-style training.

Training Details

The programme includes:

  • Paramilitary drills for discipline, endurance, and teamwork.
  • Technical skills in sanitation, environmental care, construction basics, and safety.
  • Life skills training on responsibility, money management, and communication.

Terms of Engagement

  • Participants will receive a monthly stipend.
  • They must attend all training and complete assigned duties.
  • They must adhere to the programme’s code of conduct.
  • The programme prepares recruits for future job opportunities or entrepreneurship.
