Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Recruitment – October 2025
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has officially announced its October 2025 recruitment drive for:
- General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets (Regular and Graduate)
- Specialist Officers
- General Duty Recruits
- Tradesmen/women
- Defence Forces Constables
This nationwide exercise provides opportunities for qualified Kenyans to join the military and serve the nation.

- Recruitment is FREE of charge.

General Requirements
Must be a Kenyan citizen with a valid National ID.
Must present original documents and four (4) photocopies of ID, KRA PIN, and academic certificates.
Age:
- 18–26 years (GSO Cadets & General Duty Recruits).
- Not above 30 years (Specialist Officers & Tradesmen/women).
- Not above 39 years (Chaplains/Imams).
Must have no criminal record.
Meet minimum physical standards: - Height: Men 1.60m, Women 1.52m.
- Weight: Men 54.55kg, Women 50kg.
- BMI below 30.
Female candidates must not be pregnant during recruitment or training.
Must be medically fit.
Specialist Officers/Tradesmen must have at least 2 years’ experience after registration with a statutory body.
Minimum Academic Qualifications
General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets – Regular
- KCSE mean grade B (Plain) with C+ in English, Mathematics, and one Science.
- Training: 3 years, leading to a BSc in Defence and Security Studies.
GSO Cadets – Graduate
- Must meet GSO Cadet – Regular requirements.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in approved fields.
- Training: 15 months.
Specialist Officers
- Must meet GSO Cadet – Regular requirements.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields + statutory registration.
- Chaplains/Imams: KCSE C+ plus theological qualifications.
- Training: 6 months.
Service Members (General Duty Recruits)
- KCSE mean grade D (Plain).
- NYS graduates with required conditions have an added advantage.
Tradesmen/women
- Diploma Holders: KCSE C (Plain) + Diploma/higher + statutory registration.
- Certificate Holders (Artisans): KCSE D+ + Trade Test Grade II or Craft II.
Constables
- Retired KDF: Age 30–55, “Good” Discharge Certificate, 9+ years of service.
- Retired NYS: Age 35–45, “Good” Discharge Certificate.

- GSO Cadets (Regular & Graduate) – Engineering, Education, Finance, ICT, Security Studies, Geology, Hospitality, Linguistics, Community Development, Sports Science, etc.
- Specialist Officers – Chaplaincy/Imams, Engineering, ICT, Strategic Communication, Law, Medical, Finance.
- Tradesmen/women – Diploma & certificate holders in Education, ICT, Engineering, Music, Catering, Welding, Tailoring, Electrical/Electronics, Plumbing, etc.

- Shortlisting: Names published in local dailies between 21st – 24th October 2025.
- Only online applications will be accepted.
General Duty Recruits & Constables recruitment will take place physically at designated county centres, with dates to be announced in a separate KDF itinerary.
