The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has officially launched Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) for Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers, a long-awaited step aimed at integrating JSS teachers into the formal promotion structure.
Previously, many JSS teachers felt sidelined, particularly after being excluded from promotion interviews conducted earlier this year. The new guidelines place JSS teachers on the same promotion trajectory as secondary school teachers, clarifying their grading, appraisal, and training requirements.
This comes amid ongoing debates over teacher deployment, workload, and remuneration following the transition from the 8-4-4 system to the 2-6-3-3 CBC framework. TSC also promised future promotions will factor in the new guidelines and will begin by the end of June 2025.
