Primary School Teachers to Invigilate and Supervise KJSEA 2025 – KNEC Confirms
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially announced that primary school teachers will play a key role in the administration of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) 2025. This marks a significant step in integrating both primary and junior school personnel in the execution of national assessments under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
According to KNEC, teachers will be deployed as centre managers, invigilators, and supervisors in the upcoming assessments scheduled to begin in October. The Council will implement a blended approach, utilizing both primary and junior school teachers in schools close to their working stations.
Centre Managers to Be Primary School Headteachers
KNEC clarified that primary school headteachers acting as principals in junior schools will serve as centre managers, assisted by their deputies. While the Council has not specified the exact payment structure for these professionals, it is anticipated that they will receive similar rates as those supervising other KNEC exams.
First KJSEA and KPLEA Administration Begins in October
This year is notable as it marks the first-ever administration of KJSEA and its special needs counterpart, the Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA). Rehearsals for KJSEA will commence on October 24, 2025, followed by six days of theory and practical assessments.
A total of approximately four million candidates will sit for national assessments across various levels: KCSE, KPSEA, KJSEA, and KPLEA.
KJSEA Examiners Undergoing Intensive Training
KNEC began the second phase of training for KJSEA examiners on August 1, 2025. By August 12, a total of 14,500 examiners will have been trained, following the initial Phase One training in April which trained 7,273 teachers.
KNEC CEO, Dr. David Njengere, urged the selected examiners to fully participate in the training and uphold integrity and fairness during assessment marking.
Shortlisted teachers were invited for training at a cost of KES 10,500, covering the following examinable subjects:
| Paper Name | Paper Code |
|---|---|
| English (Composition and Literary Analysis) | 901/2 |
| Kiswahili (Insha na Utangulizi Wafasihi) | 902/2 |
| Mathematics | 903 |
| Integrated Science | 905/1 |
| Agriculture | 906/1 |
| Christian Religious Education | 908 |
| Islamic Religious Education | 909 |
| Creative Arts and Sports | 911/2 |
| Pre-technical Studies | 912/1 |
Teachers have expressed concerns over the complexity and unfamiliar format of the KJSEA papers, despite KNEC releasing sample materials. Learners have already completed subject selection for Grade 10 transition in January 2026.
KNEC Payment and Challenges for Contracted Professionals
KNEC highlighted several reasons some contracted professionals (CPs)—including invigilators, supervisors, and examiners—miss out on payments. These include:
- Name mismatch between CP2 and M-Pesa
- Missing ID/TSC/PF number
- Incomplete documentation (e.g., unsigned/stamped attendance registers)
- Undeployed personnel in CP2 portal
- Slow response or late data submission
To resolve these issues, affected professionals are advised to update their CP2 profiles, contact Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDE), and ensure all documentation is complete and submitted on time.
Updated KNEC Payment Rates (2025)
Following demands from teachers, KNEC has revised its payment rates:
- KJSEA Supervisors: KES 680/day × 3 days = KES 2,040
- KJSEA Invigilators: KES 550/day × 3 days = KES 1,680
- KPSEA Supervisors: KES 680/day × 3 days = KES 2,040
- KPSEA Invigilators: KES 550/day × 3 days = KES 1,680
- KCSE Supervisors: KES 680/day × 16 days = KES 10,880
- KCSE Invigilators: KES 550/day × 16 days = KES 8,800
- Centre Managers: KES 550/day (for both KPSEA and KCSE)
