Position Summary
We are currently seeking out an Associate Director to aid us in enterprise improvement and shipping for UK Gov: FCDO (donor), British International Investment (DFI), UK Export Finance (ensures/ECA), slicing across distinct sectors in Africa.
Based in Nairobi, Kenya, the a success candidate will lead our UK Government key account across Africa. He/she will combine commercial enterprise improvement with delivery and control of engagements. This function will involve coordination and oversight of our activities concentrated on the United Kingdom Government (and especially FCDO) key sectors or strategic priorities in Africa. The position will require tour across Africa and occasionally to UK.
Key roles and responsibilities
Business development – The primary responsibility is to design and implement business development strategies. This includes generating new business, establishing and nurturing strong business relationships, and demonstrating technical and operational leadership to provide high-quality solutions that cater to the specific needs of the UK Government, particularly the FCDO.
Client/project management – Taking the lead in managing multiple projects or programs with the support of a team of professionals and collaboration with cross-divisional specialists. This involves providing assistance in negotiations, managing contractual arrangements, and ensuring successful project delivery.
Building a project portfolio (across Africa) by establishing and maintaining strategic relationships with senior stakeholders of the UK Government and its agencies, such as the FCDO or Target Governments in Africa.
Staying updated on market trends, competitor activities, and products/services in order to make informed decisions and stay competitive.
Risk management – Ensuring strict adherence to KPMG’s quality, risk, and management standards.
Undertaking any other tasks assigned to you.
Academic/Professional qualifications and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in fields such as health, economics, finance, engineering, etc. A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field would be highly desirable.
A minimum of 15 years of experience working in the international development sector or with development finance institutions, preferably in Africa.
Proven experience in managing projects and teams within a development or professional services firm.
At least 10 years of experience and knowledge working with UK Government agencies, particularly the FCDO (formerly DFID), as a subject matter expert.
Demonstrated ability to generate business and successfully deliver projects in strategic sectors funded by the FCDO or the UK Government.
A track record of success in writing proposals and securing engagements.
Established relationships and networks with the UK Government and other key players, such as the FCDO.
A thorough understanding of the current UK Government development approach.
