REGISTRATION OF LEARNERS ON SOCIAL HEALTH AUTHORITY (SHA)

The Constitution of Kenya upholds the fundamental right of every individual to access the highest attainable standard of health, including the right to essential healthcare services. In alignment with this constitutional provision, the government enacted the Social Health Insurance Act No. 16 of 2023. This Act mandates that all Kenyan citizens, including children, must be registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA) to ensure universal health coverage.

To facilitate compliance with this law, parents and guardians of school-going children are required to enroll them in the SHA program. The registration process can be completed conveniently through the official SHA website at https://afyangu.go.ke or by dialing *147# and following the provided instructions. This initiative aims to ensure that all learners have access to affordable and reliable healthcare services, promoting their well-being and academic performance.

As part of the Ministry’s directive, all County and Sub-County Directors of Education are required to disseminate this information to all schools under their jurisdiction. School administrators should promptly notify parents and guardians about the registration requirement and offer guidance on the necessary steps to complete the process successfully. Additionally, schools should assist parents who may face challenges in accessing digital platforms to ensure that no child is left unregistered.

This exercise is crucial in enhancing the overall health of learners by guaranteeing that they can access medical services whenever necessary. The government remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children by implementing policies that promote their physical and mental well-being. The registration deadline for all learners is set for 28th February 2025, and it is imperative that compliance is achieved within the stipulated timeline to facilitate effective healthcare service delivery.

For any inquiries or further guidance, stakeholders are encouraged to engage with the relevant education offices or visit the SHA website for additional information.
