List of Requirements Needed by JSS Teachers as They Start CEMASTEA Online TrainingJunior Secondary School (JSS) teachers will begin their CEMASTEA online training today, Monday, June 16, 2025. The training, organized by the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA), is aimed at enhancing ICT integration in teaching and learning for newly recruited teachers.

Training Schedule

The online training will run from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM and is open to all junior school teachers, including:

  • Recently deployed P1 teachers in JSS
  • JSS teachers recruited on a one-year internship contract
  • Teachers who have not previously participated in CEMASTEA training

A total of 20,000 JSS teachers are expected to participate in the session.

Purpose of the Training

According to a circular issued by CEMASTEA (Ref. No. CEM/ICT/VOL.V/027), the 2025 training will:

  • Focus on ICT integration in teaching and learning
  • Combine synchronous and asynchronous online sessions
  • Be conducted via the CEMASTEA portal and other virtual platforms

The training is part of the government’s effort to equip teachers with digital skills necessary for effective delivery under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Requirements for JSS Teachers Attending the CEMASTEA Online Training

To successfully participate in the online training, JSS teachers are required to:

  1. Be a newly recruited Junior School STEM teacher
    – Including those re-deployed from primary schools
  2. Not have attended any previous CEMASTEA training
  3. Possess a functional Gmail account
    Only Gmail addresses will be accepted for registration and training access
  4. Be nominated through CTCDC county teams
    – Regional CTCDC chairpersons are responsible for identifying eligible teachers
  5. Ensure their data is captured in an Excel format
    – Based on templates in Annex I and II provided by CEMASTEA
  6. Have their nomination submitted by their county by May 30, 2025
    – Through email to: ceo@cemastea.ac.ke

Coordination and Oversight

The directive has been copied to:

  • TSC County Directors (CTCDC Co-Chairs)
  • Regional Directors of Education
  • TSC Regional Directors

The CEMASTEA Chief Executive Officer, Jacinta I. Akatsa, emphasized the importance of the training and the need for full participation from all eligible teachers.
