Kenya Set to Roll Out KEMIS to Enhance Centralized Education Data Management
enya’s Ministry of Education is preparing to launch the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS).
KEMIS is expected to replace the current National Education Management Information System (NEMIS).
The new system will manage data from all levels of education in one centralized platform.
It will provide accurate and timely data for planning, policy-making, and decision-making processes.
KEMIS will integrate data from NEMIS, TVET-MIS, and HEMIS into a single platform.
This integration will allow easy tracking of learners from pre-primary to university levels.
Despite its official launch, KEMIS is not yet fully operational.
The delay is due to the need for infrastructure expansion and capacity building.
The Ministry also needs to address cybersecurity risks linked to the new system.
To support the rollout, the Ministry is seeking partnerships with private and public sectors.
They are also engaging development partners and educational institutions for technical and financial support.
The system is part of the National Education Sector Strategic Plan (NESSP) 2023–2027.
