We are seeking an experienced and passionate Teacher of English and Literature to join our dynamic team at the Aga Khan Academy in Nairobi. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality English and Literature lessons, fostering student achievement, and supporting the overall mission and vision of the school as articulated by His Highness the Aga Khan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive English curriculum that aligns with the International Baccalaureate (IB) standards and philosophy. This includes designing units of study, lesson plans, and assessments that incorporate IB principles such as inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinary connections, and international-mindedness.
- Adapt Teaching Strategies: Tailor teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs and abilities of students, providing additional support or challenges as necessary to ensure all students can succeed.
- Assessment: Utilize varied and appropriate assessments, including formative and summative assessments, in line with IB requirements to evaluate student progress and guide instruction.
- Learning Management Systems: Effectively use Academy Learning Management Systems such as ManageBac to track and support student learning.
- Parent Engagement: Regularly and effectively engage parents in their children’s education, fostering a supportive learning environment.
- Subject Knowledge: Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of English and Literature and apply modern pedagogical techniques to enhance student learning.
- Student Evaluation: Accurately assess and comment on both the ability and developmental potential of each student.
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with students, colleagues, and parents, using email and the school information system.
- Professional Values: Exhibit high professional values and practices, showing commitment to ongoing professional growth.
- School Vision: Demonstrate a profound commitment to fulfilling the vision and philosophy of the Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor of Education Arts (English and Literature) or an equivalent qualification in the respective field.
- Certification: TSC Certification.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and/or IB Diploma Programme.
- Expertise: Previous experience teaching in the MYP is essential.
