Britam is currently seeking a skilled Accounts Assistant for a three-month short-term contract position based in Nairobi. Job Opportunity: Accounts Assistant at Britam

The Accounts Assistant will support the Medical Accounting department, ensuring timely provider payments, efficient fund management, and accurate general ledger reconciliations.


Key Responsibilities

1. Payments & Reconciliations

  • Prepare and monitor monthly payout targets for major medical service providers.
  • Issue remittance advice, including invoice details, to medical providers.
  • Conduct regular reconciliation of provider statements and resolve outstanding balances.
  • Maintain accurate records for Britam’s credit accounts with providers.
  • Ensure timely renewal of expired provider guarantees.
  • Negotiate provider efficiency and volume discounts.
  • Assist in recovering overpayments and optimizing payout accuracy.

2. Fund & Insured Scheme Management

  • Monitor usage of funded medical schemes and trigger top-ups at 75% utilization.
  • Issue monthly fund utilization reports upon request.
  • Coordinate medical premium collections and allocate receipts accurately.
  • Reconcile funded scheme accounts monthly and ensure alignment with the ERP system.

3. Outpatient Fund and Premium Collection

  • Generate and follow up on insured premium statements in collaboration with the Sales team.
  • Support recovery of medical claims paid outside the insured policy.
  • Process premium refunds for clients promptly.
  • Prepare monthly provider reconciliation status reports, including discounts and clearance updates.
  • Ensure all service providers comply with eTIMS regulations.

4. General Ledger Reconciliations

  • Perform monthly reconciliation of assigned general ledger accounts.
  • Pass journal entries and adjustments to maintain financial accuracy.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field.
  • CPA (K) certification or a similar professional accounting qualification.
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in accounting, preferably within the insurance or healthcare sector.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (experience with Oracle Financials is a plus).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements and financial products.
