Role Summary:
As an English/Literature Teacher at Aga Khan Education Service, Kenya (AKESK), you will be responsible for delivering a broad, balanced, and differentiated learning experience for students in accordance with the national curriculum, the school’s aims, and curriculum policies. Your role is crucial in fostering a commitment to the school’s ethos and values, ensuring high-quality learning, effective resource use, and continuous improvement in student achievement. Monitoring and supporting the overall progress and development of students is a key component of this role, as you help guide them towards academic and personal success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lesson Planning and Delivery: Prepare and deliver high-quality English and Literature lessons that align with the school’s vision and mission. Your teaching will cover a wide range of classes and abilities, following agreed-upon schemes of work, assessment practices, and procedures for recording and reporting student progress.
- Curriculum Development: Develop programs that meet the needs, abilities, and interests of learners, employing a variety of instructional techniques and media. This includes creating engaging lesson plans that cater to different learning styles, ensuring that all students are challenged and supported in their academic growth.
- Student Assessment: Evaluate student performance throughout the school calendar year, using a variety of assessment tools. Provide feedback that supports student improvement and helps them to achieve their full potential.
- Material Development: Collaborate with colleagues to develop appropriate teaching materials and schemes of work within your faculty. This collaboration ensures that the curriculum remains relevant, engaging, and aligned with the school’s educational goals.
- Student Welfare and Discipline: Share responsibility for the safety, well-being, and discipline of all students. This includes supervising students according to agreed-upon rotas and ensuring a positive and conducive learning environment.
- Support for Struggling Students: Provide additional help to individual students who are behind or struggling to grasp the content. Your support will be vital in helping these students overcome challenges and succeed in their studies.
- Parent and Colleague Collaboration: Participate in meetings with parents and colleagues related to all aspects of your work as a teacher. Effective communication and collaboration are essential for student success and school improvement.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, with a focus on English and Literature.
- At least 3 years of high school teaching experience.
- Must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
- Familiarity with the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
