About the role:
The communications internship is a 3-6 month, full-time paid internship. This role requires a bilingual (English and French), energetic, dedicated and detail-oriented person who can manage multiple tasks. This individual is a team-player with the willingness to learn and ability to manage multiple tasks while adapting to shifting priorities. The individual will assist with communications tasks including, but not limited to: writing and editing, photo and video production and editing, web and social media analytics, social media content, graphic design, media relations, digital asset management, event coordination and other communications and administrative support tasks as assigned.
About us:
Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) is a Pan-African initiative established in 2007 and a member of the Global Alliance for Tax Justice. It is a network of members across 16 African countries. Through its Nairobi Secretariat, TJNA collaborates closely with these member organizations in tax justice activities at the national and regional level. TJNA seeks to promote socially just and progressive taxation systems in Africa, advocating for pro-poor tax policies and the strengthening of tax systems to promote domestic resource mobilization. TJNA aims to challenge harmful tax policies and practices that favor the wealthy and perpetuate inequality. TJNA engages in various activities that are aimed at promoting public awareness regarding tax issues in Africa. The revised mission is “To spearhead tax justice in Africa’s development by enabling citizens and institutions to promote equitable tax systems through Research, Capacity Building, and Policy Influencing.”
Key Responsibilities:
- Write and edit multimedia content, including web articles, blogs, and features.
- Draft and organize social media content to promote TJNA blogs, videos, and media coverage on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
- Monitor and reply to communications on platforms under the guidance of Communications Officers.
- Assist in compiling and updating TJNA’s media contact lists.
- Support the planning, organization, and coordination of programmatic and flagship events.
- Support internal communication and branding initiatives.
- Support the development of branded collateral and related deliverables.
- Take, edit, and format photos and videos for social media and web channels.
- General communications administrative support as assigned.

Role Requirements:
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; graduate-level training and/or degree(s) in Communications, Media, or Journalism. Demonstrated bilingual proficiency in English and French.
Core Skills and Experience:
Self-starter, flexible, creative and strategic thinker who is willing to learn. A passion for story, narrative structure, and the creative arts. Personable, highly creative thinker and articulate speaker with excellent writing/editorial skills. Some knowledge of current and emerging trends in the communications space, including proactively exploring new tools, applications and ideas. Ability to synthesize ideas and communicate complex or technical concepts clearly into simplified, compelling, accessible content for a general audience. Ability to communicate clearly and work cooperatively in a cross-cultural setting. A team player, who is able to collaborate, is dynamic and flexible. Motivated, able to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
